Carl James is the Director of the York Centre for Education and Community and is also cross appointed with the Graduate Programs in Sociology and the School of Social Work at York University. His research interests include equity in education related to ethnicity, race, social class, and gender; anti-racism and multicultural education; urban education; youth and sport; practitioner research; community development (social work); immigrant settlement; immigration and minority issues in Sweden; and social and educational issues in the Caribbean. A former youth worker, he is recognized for his work in Toronto’s marginalized communities, and for his work, nationally and internationally, in research on equity as related to race, class, gender and citizenship.
